Be careful of words,
even the miraculous ones.
For the miraculous ones we do our best,
sometimes they swarm like insects
and leave not a sting but a kiss.
They can be good as fingers.
They can be trusty as the rock
you stick your bottom on.
But they can be both daisies and bruises.

Yet I am in love with words.
They are doves falling out of the ceiling.
They are six holy oranges sitting in my lap.
They are the trees, the legs of summer,
and the sun, its passionate face.

Yet often they fail me.
I have so much I want to say,
so many stories, images, proverbs, etc.
But the words aren’t good enough,
the wrong ones kiss me.
Sometimes I fly like an eagle
but with the wings of a wren.

But I try to take care
and be gentle to them.
Words and eggs must be handled with care.
Once broken they are impossible
things to repair.

I’ve been reading selected poems by Rumi for the past few days. Here’s a few:

In your light I learn how to love.
In your beauty, how to make poems.

You dance inside my chest,
where no one sees you,

but sometimes I do,
and that sight becomes this art.

The way of love is not
a subtle argument.

The door there
is devastation.

Birds make great sky-circles
of their freedom.
How do they learn it?

They fall, and falling,
they’re given wings.

i am really not a blogger
and i thought i’d have so much to say
such a need to express myself
through this medium
but i should have known better
i’m actually not home that much
when i am i am renovating
and when i’m not
i’m working
or doing yoga
or seeing friends
i also write songs
i sing them
and i am in love.

The sweetest kiss leaves a chest wound.

I read this on the back of someone’s t-shirt the other day. Apparently it’s a sentence from the novel ‘Wild Animus’ by Rich Shapero whom I’ve honestly never heard of. Don’t know if I’ll read it since I’m not in a reading place at all, but the line shot straight through my chest when I read it.

Reflections

Life has been really beautiful lately. I don’t know what it is. Everything seems to fall into place, or maybe I look at things differently. This is a shot from my back window I took this morning. I have always loved reflections. There is something about the veil woven by a glass, water or any other shiny material which can create a window onto another version of the same reality, a fragile balance of temporary coexistence.

I’ve just rediscovered this independent wonder boy. I have started listening to his debut album STANDING AT THE EDGE again, and actually still love the demo and live versions – at the time available through the now defunct website latitudeline.com – more than the final versions on the album. I have just ordered DIVIDE, THE CROSSING and his latest album SIGNS OF LIFE on cdbaby.com (I’m so old fashioned, still going for the physical copies) and cannot wait for them to get here (hopefully without having to pay import taxes).
